Opening Day Detroit

Posted in Uncategorized

Today, a breath of fresh air, a memorable opening day in Detroit, (baseball again) always a special day, but the game went on and on and had so many turns. Because it was opening day I tuned in for the bottom of the 9th even though the Tigers had given up 4 runs in the top of the 9th and were down 10 – 6.  Needless to say there were fireworks in the bottom of the 9th and the game went to extra innings.

Then the spectacle of seeing the Tigers celebrating on the field, a walk off win in 10 innings was great.

That decision was overturned by some umpires in New York city and it felt like a stab in the chest. There was still the hope of winning this game, the first of the year.  Only to lose in 13 innings 13 to 10 after 5 hours and 27 minutes.

My question today, was will this be an entertaining team?  I know they don’t have the players for the postseason (admittedly rebuilding) but will they be fun to watch?  Today, for a hardy few who stayed the whole game, in the cold, it was a memorable opening day game, a potpourri of what a ballgame can offer.  Rookies getting big hits, pitchers who can’t throw strikes, a manager arguing the New York call, thrown out, knowing that he would be, some theatre, and already in this brand new season, the feeling that all we can do is just wait for the ballgame tomorrow.
